Numerous Lagos residents attending Mohbad’s candlelight procession fled in panic as police allegedly used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
KanyiDaily recalls that Mohbad died at the age of 27 under controversial circumstances on September 12, and was buried the following day in Lagos.
Following Mohbad’s death, thousands of fans have been protesting nationwide while demanding justice for the late singer with some holding candlelight processions in his honour.
The candlelight procession and memorial concert for Mohbad took place in Lagos on Thursday night, September 21, and it was attended by many people including celebrities.
The procession commenced earlier in the evening at Lekki Phase 1, followed by the memorial concert at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos at 8 PM.
Around 11 PM, mourners still participating in the Lekki procession began reporting on social media that they are being subjected to tear gas by the police, leading to scenes of people running and coughing due to the smoke.
Disturbing videos shared on social media captured people falling while trying to escape sparking outrage among Nigerians on X, formerly known as Twitter.
