Gigi Hadid has spoken out about Hamas’ attacks on Israel, which have killed at least 1,400 Israelis and Palestinians.
The 28-year-old supermodel, whose father, 74-year-old Mohamed, is of Palestinian ancestry, took to Instagram to criticise Hamas for ‘terrorising innocent people’ under the Free Palestine movement, before expressing love and support to her Palestinian and Jewish friends.
Israel launched retaliatory strikes against Hamas following a series of bombings on Saturday that killed over 1,000 Palestinians.
‘My thoughts are with all those affected by this unjustifiable tragedy, and every day that innocent lives are lost as a result of this conflict, far too many of whom are children,’ Hadid added.
‘I have profound empathy and grief for the Palestinian cause and living under occupation; it is a burden I bear on a daily basis.
‘I also feel a responsibility to my Jewish friends to make it clear, as I have before: While I have hopes and goals for Palestinians, none of them include the injury of a Jewish person.
‘Terrorising innocent people is inconsistent with and detrimental to the ‘Free Palestine’ campaign.’
‘The notion that it does has fostered a terrible, decades-long cycle of back-and-forth retaliation (of which no innocent civilian, Palestinian or Israeli, deserves to be a victim) and contributes to the misleading notion that being pro-Palestine = anti-Semitic.
‘If you are in pain, please accept my condolences today.’
