Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw has addressed the allegations made by Stella Maris, the wife of veteran actor John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu, against the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
KanyiDaily recalls that Mr Ibu recently made a public appeal to Nigerians, expressing his dire need for assistance to prevent potential amputation of his legs due to an undisclosed illness.
Reacting to the claims that Mr Ibu was abandoned, AGN’s Director of Communications, Kate Henshaw had clarified that the guild “has been supporting the ace actor financially” before his health issue was made public.
But in a video shared by social media critic VeryDarkMan, Stella Maris claimed that the AGN’s statement was false and solely an attempt to save face.
She stated that she had received no support from the union during her husband’s health challenges, and all her attempts to reach the Actors Guild had been in vain.
“I am not happy at all. AGN came to be talking about what they did not do. Why would they come out to say they’ve been supporting my husband from the start when they did not do anything?
“I called Emeka Rollers, he didn’t answer; I texted, he read the message and did not reply”, Mr Ibu’s wife said in the viral video.
Reacting on her Instagram page, Kate Henshaw challenged Stella Maris for what she considered as false statements, stressing that the Guild had been supporting Mr. Ibu since 2021.
While acknowledging that Stella Maris might be distressed due to her husband’s health, the actress emphasized that claiming the Guild hadn’t been helpful was untrue.
She said, “Good morning my attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media as of last night made by Mr Ibu’s wife.
“Let me state here categorically that this would be the last statement I would make on this issue. The crock of the matter is that someone is ill, asking for help and the focus is on him to get better.
“As of 2022/2021, when issues arose concerning his health, I wasn’t the public relations officer for the Actors Guild. My ejection into this post was this year.
“Let me state categorically and vehemently that AGN has been of help to Mr Ibu. I do understand that she is at her wit’s end, anybody would be, but to say AGN lied isn’t true”.
Meanwhile, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has paid all the medical expenses for the ailing actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu.
