Dr. Smile lamented that government officials had ‘killed’ the country’s entertainment industry rather than using it as a source of revenue.
The comedian expressed regret that government at all levels has failed to support the entertainment industry, forcing many players to hold their shows and events elsewhere.
Abegunde spoke today at a press conference in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to promote his comedy show, titled ‘Why Not Smile.’

Those in positions of authority, he claims, are unaware that “the entertainment industry has the capacity to generate enough revenue that could drive the economy” of the country.
He went on to say that “our government must do more in the development of the entertainment industry” .
The entertainer recalled that Ogun State used to be the entertainment capital after Lagos, and he urged the current administration to invest in the industry, particularly in this era of digital content creators.
While announcing that his upcoming show would feature comedians such as Alibaba, Basket Mouth, Julius Agwu, Seyi Law, and others, Abegunde urged governors to create an enabling environment for entertainers and begin sponsoring them.
