A Family Court in Ibadan, on Tuesday, ordered the detention of Michael Ayinde, aged 51, and his son, Abiola, aged 19, over allegations of raping his daughter and sister.
Mrs. O. O. Ogunkanmi, the magistrate handling the case, refrained from accepting the defendants’ pleas and directed their remand at the Abolongo correctional facility in Oyo town
The father and older brother of the complainant allegedly committed the offense at their residence located in the Agboti Olosan area, Alakia, Ibadan
Ogunkanmi stated that the father and son were remanded in custody to await legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before any further steps were taken by the court.
She adjourned the matter until February 21 for mention
The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, had informed the court that Abiola the complainant’s brother, reportedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with his younger sister between 2021 and December 2023.
Adedeji stated that Abiola allegedly impregnated his younger sister without her consent, while their father, Michael, also allegedly engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with his 17-year-old daughter between 2021 and December 2023.
She mentioned that the offense violated section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.
