A trader has sold a fake jersey of Greek-Nigerian basketball star, Giannis Antetokounmpo to him during his visit to Balogum Market in Lagos.
In a viral video featured in the recently released WhatsApp short documentary “Ugo: A Homecoming Story,” Giannis was seen purchasing a counterfeit version of his own jersey from the trader who didn’t recognize the NBA star.
The footage showed the moment Giannis, accompanied by his mother, Veronica Antetokounmpo, spotted his fake jersey being sold at the market.
Exiting his vehicle, the basketball star engaged in a negotiation with the unaware trader selling the counterfeit jersey.
Recalling the experience, Giannis mentioned, “The guy giving me the jersey had no idea who I was. He knew Giannis Antetokounmpo but didn’t recognize it was me he was selling the jersey to. That was an even crazier experience.”
In December 2023, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was raised in Greece, made his inaugural visit to Nigeria alongside his mother, Veronica Antetokounmpo.
