Gov Oborevwori, Wins Supreme Court Battles As Petitions From SDP, LP, APC Get Rejected

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has secured another victory at the Supreme Court with the dismissal of the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its gubernatorial candidate, Kenneth Gbagi, due to a lack of merit

On Friday, the Supreme Court delivered a unanimous judgment, dismissing all grounds and allegations raised against the gubernatorial poll held on March 18 last year.

Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, delivering the lead judgment, described the allegations that Oborevwori, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was not qualified for the election as laughable, emphasizing the absence of evidence supporting these claims.

Justice Lawal dismissed the argument that the election was invalid and rejected the claim that the governor was not duly elected by the majority of lawful votes cast in the poll.

The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal by the Labour Party (LP) and its gubernatorial candidate, Ken Pela, labeling it as frivolous and lacking in merit.

Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji, delivering the lead judgment, declared the petition worthless, emphasizing that the appellants failed to substantiate any of their allegations.

Justice Aba-Aji dismissed the entire petition.

In the latest development, all three appeals filed by the APC, SDP, and LP have been dismissed due to a lack of merit.
