Nollywood actress, Sarah Martins has revealed that she got married at the age of 19 as a virgin, but was still divorced by her ex-husband.
Sarah Martins stated this while responding to claims made by Solomon Buchi that women who marry as virgins tend to experience greater happiness and longer-lasting marriages.
KanyiDaily recalls that Solomon Buchi, a relationship expert, had responded to a Twitter user who questioned the importance of marrying a virgin.
He argued that statistical evidence supports the idea that people who are less sexually active and have fewer sexual partners are more likely to find satisfaction within their marriages and are less inclined to seek pleasure outside.
Citing data from the Institute for Family Studies, Buchi claimed a 65% likelihood of a happy marriage for women who marry as virgins. He argued that most sexual problems in marriages stem from past sexual experiences.
Reacting to Buchi’s perspective via her Instagram story, Sarah Martins shared her personal experience, stating that she married as a virgin at the age of 19.
However, the actress emphasized that being a virgin did not prevent her from eventually leaving the marriage.
Despite being loyal, submissive, respectful, and hardworking during her marriage, Martins explained that she had to prioritize her health and make the difficult decision to leave the relationship.
She wrote, “Dear Solomon Buchi, I was married as a virgin at the age of 19. I am still a loyal, submissive, respectful, hardworking woman. Getting married as a virgin will never stop you from getting a divorce if the need arises… if it’s not good for your health, quit!”
KanyiDaily recalls that Solomon Buchi recently argued that the concept of mutual submission in marriage, among Christian couples, is a modern distortion of biblical teachings.
