Many students from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have reportedly been arrested by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The midnight raid occurred at hostels located outside the campus early Wednesday morning, according to SaharaReporters.
The EFCC operatives allegedly conducted the raid around Orita Obele and Road block at approximately 2 am, forcefully entering rooms and making arrests.
It was gathered that many students mistook the operatives for kidnappers, only realizing later that they were EFCC officials from the Benin Zonal office.
According to sources, the raid not only resulted in the destruction of students’ property but also involved the assault and brutalization of those who were arrested.
“The officials did not only destroy our properties, most of the students arrested were assaulted and brutalised. Even female students were assaulted.
“Adonai lodge, Celebrity lodge, peace apartment and others in Orita Obele, I’ll update you with more information later,” a source told SaharaReporters.
