A middle-aged man, Adebayo Peter, tragically took the life of his friend, known as Lekan, over the weekend at the Ireakari-Oloko junction area in Akure South Local Council Area of Ondo State.
Peter allegedly committed the crime while under the influence of a hard drug suspected to be ‘ice,’ a crystallized form of amphetamine-based drugs
Following the incident, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the state police command, while the lifeless body of the victim was deposited at the mortuary.
The suspect and the deceased were reported to have come from the same community of Ede in Osun State
According to sources, Peter and Lekan had engaged in an altercation before Peter assaulted the deceased with a gas cannon, smashing him on the head
“It was the shouts of one of their friends, who hails from Delta State, that attracted our attention to the incident.
“When we got into the room, we found Lekan in a pool of blood. He was still breathing. But shortly after, he died. We had to invite the police.”
Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, announced that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
