Governor Godwin Obaseki has sworn-in Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor of Edo State.
This follows the recent impeachment of former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, by the Edo State House of Assembly, as reported by Kanyi Daily.
Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, who hails from Akoko-Edo in the Edo North Senatorial District, took the oath of office at the Dennis Osadebey Government House.
The impeachment of Shaibu came after the State Assembly endorsed the findings of a seven-member panel that investigated allegations of misconduct against him. The panel, led by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa, held its inaugural session last Wednesday in Benin, concluding its proceedings on Friday.
Despite being given multiple opportunities to defend himself against the allegations, Shaibu or his legal representative failed to appear before the panel. His counsel, Oladoyin Awoyale, initially attended the proceedings but withdrew after the panel declined his request to halt the proceedings pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed by Shaibu in Abuja contesting the impeachment process.
