American actor Johnny Wactor, known for his role on the TV soap, General Hospital, has died after being shot during a suspected robbery in Los Angeles.
The 37-year-old actor, who appeared in 164 episodes of General Hospital from 2020 to 2022, reportedly mistook masked thieves stealing his car for tow truck drivers and intervened before they shot him on Saturday.
General Hospital released a statement on Sunday saying: “The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Johnny Wactor’s untimely passing.
“He was truly one of a kind and a pleasure to work with each and every day. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
According to the Daily Mail, Wactor was leaving his part-time job at a rooftop bar with a female colleague around 3:25 a.m. on Saturday near West Pico Boulevard and South Hope Street when he encountered three masked men.
Thinking his vehicle was being towed, the actor approached them, and one of the men shot him before they fled in a separate vehicle.
Paramedics arrived on the scene around 3 a.m. and took Wactor to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Born in 1986 in Charleston, South Carolina, Johnny Wactor began his television career with a role in the Lifetime drama series Army Wives. He later made guest appearances on various shows, including Westworld, The OA, and Criminal Minds.
