The ad hoc committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly has submitted its report on the finances, loans, and contracts under former governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
During a plenary session on Wednesday, the committee chairman, Henry Zacharia, reported that many loans obtained during El-Rufai’s administration were misused and not secured through proper channels.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Yusuf Liman, revealed that N423 billion was misappropriated under El-Rufai, leaving the state with significant debt.
The committee recommended that El-Rufai and certain members of his cabinet be investigated and prosecuted by security and anti-corruption agencies for contract irregularities, fund diversion, money laundering, and contributing to the state’s heavy debt.
Additionally, the committee suggested the immediate suspension of the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, who also served under El-Rufai, as well as the chairman of the state universal basic education board.
They further recommended that key appointees from El-Rufai’s administration be thoroughly investigated by appropriate law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies.
The committee was assigned to review loans, grants, and project implementations from 2015 to 2023, during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor.
