Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped eight places to 38th in the latest FIFA rankings after poor performances in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Nigerian national team recently suffered a historic loss to Benin Republic and drew with South Africa, jeopardizing their World Cup hopes.
According to FIFA’s rankings released on Thursday, June 20, the Super Eagles are now 5th in Africa, two places lower than before.
Morocco tops the African rankings at 12th globally, followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (36th), and Cote d’Ivoire (37th).
World champions Argentina retained their number one position on the ranking, with France, Belgium, Brazil, and England holding the top five global positions.
The Super Eagles’ slide was expected due to their recent disappointing matches, including a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 loss to Benin.
