The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school candidates.
The 2024 WASSCE took place from April 30 to June 24, lasting seven weeks and six days. A total of 1,814,736 students registered for the exam from 25,126 secondary schools across Nigeria, and 1,805,216 of them actually took the test.
Out of the students who took the exam, 1,685,889 (93.39 percent) have had all their papers processed and their results released. However, 119,327 students (6.61 percent) are still waiting for some of their subjects to be processed.
Amos Josiah Dangut, the head of WAEC Nigeria, stated that the results of 215,267 students (11.92 percent) are being withheld due to various reported cases of exam malpractice. This is a decrease from last year, where 16.29 percent of results were withheld.
The performance analysis shows that 1,332,089 students (73.79 percent) scored credit or higher in at least five subjects (with or without English and/or Mathematics).
Meanwhile, 1,301,941 students (72.12 percent) scored credit or higher in at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics. This represents a 7.69 percent decrease from the 79.81 percent pass rate recorded in 2023.
WAEC announced these results on their official X account on Monday, stating, “The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform Candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024,” it wrote. “To access the result, log on to https://waecdirect.org.”
