The ministry’s commissioner Tokunbo Wahab announced this in a video and photos shared on his X page on Thursday, stating that the demolition aims to address flooding in the state.

Wahab explained that this action follows months of discussions with property owners whose buildings encroach on the drainage path.

The commissioner added that despite these discussions and a proposed redesign plan, the property owners did not comply.

He wrote, “After several months of stakeholders engagements with owners of property built on Systems 156 and 157 drainage path, the agreements to implement the agreed redesigned plan, which were not honoured/neglected by the community, the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources commenced the removal of illegal structures built on the canal along the System 157 – Orchid Road – Eti Osa drainage channels to deflood the area.”
