Brighton continued their perfect start to the Premier League season by defeating Manchester United 2-1 on Saturday.
Brighton took the lead when Kaoru Mitoma delivered a cross from the left side, which slipped through United’s defense and found Danny Welbeck, who scored against his former team.
United equalized at the hour mark when Amad Diallo, after being put through on goal, cut inside his defender and took a shot that deflected off a player and went past Brighton’s goalkeeper, Jason Steele.
As the match seemed to be heading for a draw, Brighton’s persistence paid off.
Simon Adingra found space in the box and chipped the ball over United’s defenders to an unmarked Joao Pedro, who headed it into the net, securing Brighton’s second win of the season.
The final whistle confirmed Brighton’s back-to-back victories under their young manager Fabian Hurzeler.
For Manchester United, it was another frustrating loss to Brighton, leaving them to once again question how to address the issues within their unbalanced and underperforming squad.
