The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has threatened to create political trouble in any state whose governor interferes with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.
Speaking at the PDP state congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike warned PDP governors against interfering in his battle with his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, for the control of the party structure in Rivers.
“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give back to somebody, I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states.
“When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see you take,” Wike said.
He specifically mentioned Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, warning that any governor who leaves their state to challenge him in Rivers will face serious consequences.
“Because I heard they got some money from signature bonus and so their heads are getting big that you will put hand in my own state. Prepare because I have the capacity to also do the same thing in your own state.
“Whether you are from Bauchi I don’t give a damn, whichever state you are from, as far as I know that you are trying to put yourself in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt and you will never sleep in your state,” he said.
Wike’s statements come after a meeting of PDP governors in Taraba State, where they discussed the ongoing conflict in Rivers involving Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The governors, led by Governor Bala Mohammed, expressed their support for Fubara and called for a review of the recent party congress in Rivers to restore his leadership.
The PDP in Rivers has been facing internal strife following the fallout between Wike and his successor, Fubara.
Governor Fubara did not attend Saturday’s congress in Port Harcourt, but Wike was present along with current and former lawmakers, ex-council chairmen, and other party members.
Representatives from INEC, including the Resident Electoral Commissioner, were also there to monitor the proceedings.
