A video circulating on social media shows Joseph Aloba, the father of late singer Mohbad, ignoring his ex-wife, Abosede Aloba, who is also the singer’s mother, at a Coroner’s Inquest.
Today, September 11th, 2024, a Coroner’s Inquest was held at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu to mark the singer’s first remembrance.
In a viral video, Mohbad’s father was seen not responding when his ex-wife greeted him.
This incident highlights the ongoing conflict between the parents following their son’s death.
The singer’s mother has been supporting Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, with whom she has since had a falling out.
In a surprising twist, Mohbad’s mother expressed support for her former husband during the Inquest, stating that whatever he decides about their son’s remembrance should be final.
A peaceful demonstration called ‘Justice for Mohbad’ also took place outside the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu.
The protest, led by Yoruba actor Yomi Fabiyi, was held to honor Mohbad, a street hop artist who passed away under suspicious circumstances on September 12, 2023, in Lagos.
Naira Marley, the founder of Marlian Records, and his associate Sam Larry, along with artist Zinoleesky, faced online backlash from upset fans over alleged assaults on Mohbad.
Reacting to the demonstration, Mohbad’s mother was seen in a video saying that whatever her ex-husband says concerning their son’s remembrance is the final.
Abosede Aloba also asked the public to pray for her late son and urged the authorities to release his remains for burial.
She said: “Whatever Mohbad’s father says is final. We don’t support any celebration over our son’s remembrance. The best you can do is to pray for him.
“We are also pleading with the authorities to release his body so that the family can resolve the lingering issues and move on. You all should please leave us alone and let us settle our family”.
