The Police Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed the appointment of CP Peter Opara as the new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, made the announcement on Saturday, September 14.
He revealed that Peter Opara will take over from CP Benneth Igwe, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police and assigned to Zone 7, Abuja.
Before his new role, CP Opara was stationed at the Force Secretary’s office and served as the Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance for the Imo State Command.
He has also worked as a Personal Assistant to the former PSC Chairman, IGP Mike Okiro (Rtd).
CP Opara’s past roles include serving as DCP Legal Studies at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, Area Commander in Aba and Uyo, Area Crime Officer in Kubwa, and Senior Deputy Defence Adviser at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
He has also held several key positions, such as Personal Assistant to multiple high-ranking officers, including the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State CP.
