The blast destroyed the gate, shattered doors and windows, and caused significant damage to other property within the building.

This is the second attack this year on the APC secretariat, which is led by Chief Tony Okocha.

In a brief statement, Chief Okocha accused supporters of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the attack.

He said, “At the wee hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office.

“The second attempt to set it ablaze was foiled as the security at the gate quickly put out the fire.”

The incident occurred on the same day that local government elections were scheduled in the state.

On Friday, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission confirmed that all sensitive materials had been delivered to the local government areas.

Okocha’s APC had previously announced its withdrawal from the elections for legal reasons.

It remains unclear what message the attackers intended by setting off the explosives.

A video of the aftermath, shared on social media, shows workers inspecting the damage at the secretariat.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she had not yet received a report on the incident but promised to follow up.

The APC has yet to release an official statement on the explosion.
