Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar has issued an apology to the founder of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman.
Halima Abubakar confessed to spreading false information about Apostle Suleman on social media, acknowledging the pain it caused him.
Her apology follows a court ruling six months ago, where she was ordered to pay N10 million in damages for making derogatory remarks against the clergyman.
The dispute between Abubakar and Suleman began in 2022, when the actress fell seriously ill after a public fallout with the cleric.
During her illness, Halima Abubakar’s family took to social media, asking Apostle Suleman to stay away from her.
However, there were claims that Abubakar was suffering from an autoimmune disease, which she later denied by sharing her medical records.
The actress accused the cleric of having an extramarital relationship with her which got her bedridden for months.
Apostle Suleman filed a lawsuit against Halima Abubakar for defamation of his character and demanded N1 billion as aggravated and exemplary damages for libel.
In April 2024, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court ordered the actress to pay N10m as damages to the cleric for publishing derogatory comments against him.
In a letter to Apostle Suleman, Halima Abubakar expressed regret for tarnishing his reputation and asked for his forgiveness.
She wrote, “I am writing to you today to acknowledge the falsehoods I made against you on social media and to offer my sincerest apologies.
“After deep reflections, and for my conscience to be in accord with God, I have realized the depth of the harm, pains and distress caused by my lies.
“I admit that I made false allegations against you; and also regret my actions and the damage I caused to you, your wife, Dr. Mrs. Lizzy Suleman, your family, and the Leaders of the Omega Fire Ministry.
“With this letter, I humbly ask for your forgiveness, recognizing that my apology cannot undo the harm, pains and distress I caused and I ask you find a place in your heart to forgive me as I was not thinking right then.
“Sir, you have done a lot for humanity, please, extend your hands of forgiveness toward me.
“Once again, Sir, I am truly sorry for all the hurts and distress I caused you, your family, and your ministry.
“Thank you very much and may the Heavens calm your heart. God bless you, Sir.”
