The Federal High Court in Abuja has thrown out the charges against 119 individuals who were arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Judge Obiora Egwuatu dismissed the case on Tuesday after M.D. Abubakar, representing the attorney-general of the federation (AGF), filed a request to take control of and withdraw the charges.
In court, Abubakar cited Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution, which allows the AGF to take over or halt any criminal case brought by other authorities, including the Inspector General of Police.
After Judge Egwuatu approved the AGF’s request, Abubakar moved to dismiss the trial of all 119 defendants based on this constitutional authority.
With no opposition from defense attorneys, Judge Egwuatu accepted the application, dismissed the charges, and ordered the immediate release of the detained individuals, who were not present in court.
KanyiDaily recalls that Nigerian activist, VeryDarkMan had issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu’s government regarding the treatment of the minor #EndBadGovernance protesters.
