Residents of Trademore Estate in Abuja were thrown into panic early Monday morning when a fire broke out at the local market along Umar Musa Yar’Adua/Airport Road.
While the cause of the fire is still unknown as of this report, an eyewitness identified as Tosin Adeleke revealed that the fire began around 4 a.m. and quickly spread through the shops, causing confusion.
Adeleke explained that shop owners scrambled to save their goods from the flames,
The eyewitness said that authorities are still working to assess the damage and figure out the fire’s origin.
He also mentioned that while the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service were contacted, the fire’s intensity made it difficult to manage initially.
Adeleke said: “It is sad. We are not certain about the cause of the fire, but an electrical fault cannot be ruled out.
“Efforts were made to contact both the Federal Fire Service and the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, but the situation was intense”.
He noted that residents eventually contacted the fire service team at Dunamis Church, who arrived around 5 a.m.
After two hours of efforts, the fire was finally put out by the Federal Fire Service teams from the EFCC and Sauka stations.
