New Mini Buses Spotted In Lagos As Replacement For Banned 'Okada' And 'Keke Napep' [Photos] 3

A new means of transportation have been introduced in Lagos State following the recent ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, and tricycles, known as Keke Napep in some areas in the state.

KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had banned Okada and Keke Napep from six local government areas and nine local council development areas of the state.

The Lagos State government stated that the ban was due to the rising crime rates and accidents associated with motorcycles and tricycles.

A new photo circulating on the internet shows different colours of mini bus roaming the street of Lagos and Lagosians are wondering if it is a replacement for okada and keke.

At the time of filing this report, we don’t know if the replacement is from the state government or from a private sector.

Lagos state needs mass transportation system not these minis that will cause a lot of traffic. I don’t see how these are better than what they banned. We should think ahead and not backwards. Let’s look for a way to stop the menace once and for all and stop creating other problems because of selfish interest. Mass transportation system is the answer.

This is not needed either, is another keke in disguise and I’m very sure the state government does not have hand in this arrangement probably the previous selfish keke importers, by the time this crap floods the state another Kaos begins, can’t we just keep to standard?

The new kekebus is not a idea as replacement for the previous okada/keke marwa. But the way out for efficient and free traffic situation in Lagos is the mass transit option. If the water ways around Lagos is properly harnessed and the metro or mono rail is added, Lagos roads would be decongested, and the daily madness of go slow will disappear and that with its attendant reckless driving and drivers desperately cutting corners to beat the traffic
