Michael Offei has been jailed for failing to pay £42,000 in child maintenance for his son. The 46-year-old, who is Byron Wordsworth from the station’s Storymakers, got 28 days after skipping two court dates. According to the Daily Mirror, warrants were issued for his arrest and he was then brought before magistrates. ‘If you had made an attempt to pay something, any amount of money in the last few years, we may have ruled differently,’ Chairman Dennis Alderman told him.
Offei not only appears on the CBeebies programme, but he has also starred in James Bond movie Casion Royale, but also starred alongside Dougray Scott in Hitman. Offei’s prosecution at Enfield magistrates court comes after the Government authorised the removal of £13.5million from bank accounts of those failing to pay maintenance. ‘Parents who try to dodge what they owe are cheating their children out of vital cash,’ a Department of Work and Pensions spokesman said.
