A flight was delayed for over two hours after passengers were sent death threats and horrifying pictures
Passengers were already boarded on the on the Vueling flight from Fiumicino airport in Rome to Alicante, Spain, when they received the haunting messages on 21 July.
The message which began in English started with the words;
“WAKE UP, WAKE UP, WAKE UP” and then continued in a strange language that has now been identified as Ethiopian Amharic.
An extract of the text message, which was translated, threatened the passengers’ families, saying:
“Your family will bleed for your actions, you will suffer eternally for your actions.”
The text message was followed by a picture of a skull-like figure and a photo of monster and a person in a straight jacket wearing a screaming mask.
The strange threats was sent to almost all of the 147 passengers via Airdrop, a software which allows iPhone users to send and receive pictures and videos from people close by.
After alerting the crew to the messages, the captain of the plane decided to delay the flight, and informed airport police of the strange development.
Investigations revealed the threat was sent by an 18-year-old Spaniard, who later admitted to the crime.
Strange times indeed.
