Tragedy struck in Nandi County, Kenya, as a 30-year-old man got buried alive while digging a pit toilet at Jean Marie Secondary school.
On Monday July 25, three men were reportedly contracted to dig the pit toilet at the school. Everything was going on well until suddenly the ground gave way and one of the Josphat was buried under the rubble.
One of the diggers, Nicholas Odungo said the incident happened as they were finalizing their work.
He said;
“When we got to 30 feet deep, we decided to go and eat. We had gone for lunch and we told him to continue digging. We returned shortly after to help him remove the soil and while in the process of tying the rope the walls cave in.”
The father of three is still trapped in the rubble and rescue efforts are ongoing. Residents are now calling on the county government and the national government to join the rescue efforts.
One of the residents said;
“It is so sad that we were coming to the end of our work before we get paid but what has happened has really affected us. We request the rescue team and disaster management to come and rescue Josphat who has been trapped since 2:00 pm.”
