A 26-year-old man, Averson Ambi, has allegedly beheaded his cousin, Mrs Naira Yahanna, during the late hours of Saturday in Shinge area of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital over a meal disagreement. The cause of Averson’s action, was the unpalatable meal he claimed was served to him by the deceased on that fateful night which did not go down well with him, consequently triggering him to cut off Naira’s head with his sword.
Mrs. Naira was a 22-year-old mother of two children who ran into the residence of Averson’s father on Queen of Apostles School road, Shinge– Lafia from the ongoing Eggon/Fulani feud at Bassa district in Kokona Local Government Area of the state.
On the other hand, Averson was said to have been dismissed from the services of the Nigeria Police sometime ago in Kaduna where he was serving and consequently became jobless and resorted to excessive drinking of the local gin (Ogogoro).
When our correspondent visited Ambi’s residence, hundreds of people were thronging into the residence to sympathise with the relations of the deceased.
LEADERSHIP further gathered that, Averson, after beheading the cousin, equally attacked his friend and left him with multiple cuts leading to his admission into an undisclosed hospital in Lafia even after he had killed his dog and a cow belonging to his father, Mr. Joseph Ambi.
When contacted, father of Averson, Joseph, who was so devastated by the incident, told our correspondent that he was not in the mood to talk to the press over his son’s barbaric behaviour adding that he totally lacked what to say.
Nasarawa State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Micheal Ada, confirmed the incident and said the culprit was arrested and detained as medical examination was being carried out on him to determine his state of mind as of the time of his committing the crime.
