PHOTOSPEAKS: Chinua Achebe’s Body Arrives Nigeria
Professor Chinua Achebe‘s body arrived Nigeria 5:30am today via British airways. A church service was held for him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
It was presided over by Bishop Owen Nwokoro, Bishop of Niger Diocese of the Anglican Church.
Dignitaries at the church service included Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim Pius, and also it was both of them that led the team that received Achebe’s body on its arrival from the United States, where he died on March 31, aged 82.
His body was then flown to Enugu aboard a private plane en-route his hometown, Ogidi, Anambra state, where it was received by Achebe’s elder brother, Chief Augustine Achebe, other family members and state govt officials.
He will be buried Thursday May 23. More photos when you continue!
