A woman who is seven months pregnant was put in a chokehold for cooking barbecue in font of her house. According to reports by New York Daily News, Rosan Miller, 27, was cooking barbecue on the sidewalk in front of her home in Brooklyn, New York.
The police officer approached Miller because it’s illegal to cook food on a sidewalk without a city permit. The police eventually became violent and grabbed Miller. The officer was photographed putting Miller in a chokehold. The woman’s young daughter watched as the abuse was taking place.
Miller’s family attempted to protect her from the abuse and they were also arrested. Her brother, John; and husband, Moses, were both handcuffed and sent to jail.
Several community activists have spoken out against the abuse and want all charges against the Millers to be dropped.
For the fourth time in less than three weeks, officers from the NYPD have been filmed choking unarmed citizens. On July 17, Eric Garner died after officers choked him for allegedly selling cigarettes.
