The Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and his crew caused quite a scare as they performed traditionally at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art, Washington DC yesterday June 21st.
The Washington D.C fire brigade stormed the venue after they were called in following displays of fire and smoke.
The Ooni who is on a tour of the USA, has had different ceremonies performed in his honour at every city he visited. Though no accidents occurred at this ceremony of the thunder god, Sango, the fire alerted fire fighters to the venue.
A dozen fire marshals rushed to the scene with three fire trucks, only to discover that it was a traditional Sango performance. Eyewitnesses add that the officials finally left after being briefed.
