There were gunshots and uproar in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Uyo on Tuesday, November 27, as five of the lawmakers who were sacked stormed the complex with armed thugs.
Five lawmakers who were recently sacked after they defected from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), assumed their seats and started an impeachment process against the state Governor, Udom Emmanuel.
According to a report by Dailytrust, Governor Emmanuel Udom stormed the assembly complex with security personnel to stop the five APC lawmakers from sitting.
As soon as Governor Udom entered the premises of the assembly, the atmosphere became rowdy, gunshots were fired by security personnel.
The newly acclaimed speaker, Mr Nse Ntuen, who had earlier sat with the four other lawmakers, was also harassed by security personnel in the assembly premises, his vehicle was almost mobbed.
Some journalists who were in the assembly for the day’s duty had to scamper for their lives, scaling the fence.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Odiko Macdon, who was in the assembly, premises, however, said he was gathering information and had yet to speak.
This is the second time in two weeks that the assembly would be closed down by the police.
