Bollywood actor, Esha Gupta has written an apology letter to Arsenal club’s Nigerian forward Alex Iwobi after comparing him to a gorilla.
A week ago, we reported that Esha Gupta, an avid Arsenal supporter and an ambassador of the English Premier League side, made racist comments when she was criticizing Alex Iwobi’s performance in the club’s recent game on a Whatsapp conversation with her friend which she later shared as an Instagram story. The Bollywood actress came under severe criticism from all quarters after sharing the racist remark on her Instagram account. She quickly deleted the post, but her followers were quick to take screenshots of it.
Esha Gupta did post a hastily written apology but that too fell on deaf ears as Twitter users and Arsenal fans continued to slam her, so she decided to write an apology letter.
According to IANS, in her letter to Alex Iwobi, Esha Gupta wrote:
“I am extremely sorry for my ignorant action last Friday. Being an ardent fan of many years, I was deeply engrossed and caught up in the game.”
The Bollywood actress said she “clearly did not realize the racial undertone” from her friend’s message, which she had shared on Instagram last week. She said:
“For this, I am deeply regretful. I cannot begin to imagine how much I have hurt your sentiments. Racism has absolutely no place in my heart, and I promise you, for whatever it’s worth, going forward this will never happen again.”
Gupta also wished Iwobi forgives her for her “careless action”, and to Arsenal FC, she wrote:
“I hope the club can accept my humblest apology and give me the opportunity to make amends. I promise to be very responsible from here on.”
