An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, has ordered the remand of Olalekan Ogunyemi, a dismissed police inspector, in prison custody for the murder of Mr. Kolade Johnson.
Kolade Johnson was shot dead by Inspector Olalekan Ogunyemi, while he was watching a Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in Lagos on Sunday.
The Nigerian Police Force on Thursday dismissed Inspector Olalekan, attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command.
Ogunyemi was arraigned for murder on Friday hours after an orderly room trial found him guilty of unlawful use of firearms.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Kehinde Olatunde, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 31, at 5:10 pm on Onipetesi Estate, Idi-Mangoro, Lagos.
He said Ogunyemi used his Ak-47 rifle to kill Johnson, adding that the offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
