The invasion follows an alleged attempt by a faction of the house to impeach the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr. Tonye Isenah, who had been expected to resign today.
Isenah’s expected resignation, followed pressure mounted on him by some Peoples Democratic Party’s leaders to resign ahead of the November 16 governorship election because he hails from the same area as the PDP candidate, Douye Diri.
Those who are insisting that he must step down are hinging it on the need to balance the power-sharing formula in the state.
Isenah insisted that he remains speaker, but he was impeached by his colleagues this morning, following his refusal to resign.
Meanwhile, Some of the state’s lawmakers have reportedly elected Monday Obolo as the new speaker. Obolo is representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2.
