A Northern leader, Senator Muslihu El-Jibrin Doguwa is of the opinion that igbos will cry if they are allowed to break out from Nigeria.
Doguwa stated this during an interview with Vanguard newspaper over the weekend.
According to him, any ethnic group that break out from Nigeria in the country’s present circumstances will not succeed.
He said those calling for the secession of Nigeria are ignorant, and they were not around when the country’s founding fathers were talking about the unity of Nigeria. Doguwa added:
“That is why they are bastardizing the thinking of our youths and putting them on the wrong path, thinking that when they secede they will succeed. Whoever secedes from Nigeria as it is today will not succeed.
“Let me tell you this, especially the IPOB that has made it an issue, if they are allowed to go they will cry.
“Let me give you a simple example, can you tell me any small village in Nigeria today that you cannot find an Igbo man? You can’t.
“When they secede will they then say they are going back to their own country? Do you think we in remaining Nigeria will allow them to continue to stay in our villages or in our own part? Or will they allow our people to stay in their own part? No, they will not,” Senator Doguwa said.
He said if the country breaks up, everyone would have to move to his own region, adding that groups agitating for secession or revolution are only wasting their time.
“There will be no revolution in Nigeria and there will be no section of Nigeria that will go its own way,” he said.
Meanwhile, Senator Rochas Okorocha had questioned the motives of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying he does not know what the group is advocating for till date.
Okorocha who insisted that he did not know what IPOB is agitating for, said he would only consider joining them only if the Nnamdi Kalu-led group can convince him on why he must join the group and where it is taking the Igbos to.
