The presidency has reacted to the story making the rounds that President Muhammadu Buhari is planning to marry a second wife, in the person of Hajia Sadia Umar Farouq, the current Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
Following the continued absence of the current First Lady, Aisha Buhari, who has been out of the country for over two months since her trip to Saudi Arabia early August.
Rumours emerged from the Aso Rock that President Buhari will be getting married to Ms. Farouq who has been a very close friend of his and the cabal for a very long time.
In reaction through a statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina revealed that the report was a deceptive manoeuvre by those who fabricated the news.
According to Tribune, Adesina said that the news was far from the truth and that no such marriage is taking place at the Presidential Villa.
Tribune quoted another top Aso Rock source saying:
“How will anyone expect that the President will be getting married and it will be a secret affair?”
“Nigerians like to gist and play banters, as it is another way of relaxation for many, and they have seen the president as a personality that suits their side talks. It is bad, but that is what happens.”
“We can’t expect us to be as many as this in Nigeria interns of population, with some oppositions against the President and we won’t expect things like this not to happen.”
“However, the news of the President getting married today is a false,” the source who won’t want his name mentioned for security reasons said.
Meanwhile, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri said it could be true that Buhari is taking a second to replace Aisha who has allegedly been fighting off the attempt by the cabal to have the president marry Ms. Farouq.
Omokri, however, noted that the date of the alleged wedding is not confirmed.
