Police in Zamfara State have arrested sixty-one passengers of an articulated vehicle travelling from Lagos State amid the coronavirus movement restriction.
Zamfara Police Commissioner, Usman Nagogo, who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Daki Takwas, on Monday, said all the passengers have been quarantined.
Nagogo said the passengers were returning from Lagos when they were apprehended by his men at the Daki Takwas boundary and handed over to health workers.
He explained that the passengers would be kept into isolation before being allowed to proceed to their respective communities.
“We decided to keep them in isolation because they all came from Lagos where the COVID-19 pandemic is being recorded on a daily basis so as to know their health status,” Nagogo said.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 had lamented about the people who are being smuggled in trucks out of Lagos State despite lockdown order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
This was after Niger State Government turned back a trailer filled with over 50 people who were returning from Lagos State amid the coronavirus movement restrictions.
