Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Bolaji Salami, to restore the security details of the state’s deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, with immediate effect.
According to SaharaReporters, the directive was contained in a letter issued on Monday morning to the Ondo Police Commissioner through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations, Force headquarters Abuja.
The letter with Ref. No CB: 2002/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL/77/168 was signed on behalf of the IGP through Mr Austine Agbonlahor, Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
KanyiDaily recalls that last Wednesday, Ajayi had raised alarm that the security details attached to him and his office were withdrawn by the Nigeria Police Force in the state.
He specifically accused the Commissioner of Police of working on the instructions of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to withdraw the officers.
That was after the incident on Saturday night, when Ajayi was prevented from leaving Ondo Government House by the state Police Commissioner, who was acting on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s instructions.
The deputy governor and some personal aides had gone to the Government House to move out his personal belongings ahead of his planned defection to the PDP in preparation of the October 10, 2020 governorship election in the state.
Ajayi has since then resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress(APC), and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
