A new study says black newborn babies are more likely to survive childbirth if taken care of by Black doctors, but they’re three times more likely to die when looked after by white doctors.

NEW STUDY: Black Newborn Babies Are More Likely To Die When Looked After By White Doctors 3

CNN reported that the new study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, indicates that Black newborns are significantly more likely to survive if they have a Black doctor.

The researchers looked at 1.8 million hospital birth records in Florida between 1992 and 2015, and found Black babies were more than three times more likely to die in hospital than white babies.

But when Black infants received care from a Black doctor, that disparity was cut in half — whether the doctor was providing care before, during or after childbirth.

The same was not true in reverse. A doctor’s race has little to no impact on the health of a white infant, the study found.

“Strikingly, these effects appear to manifest more strongly in more complicated cases, and when hospitals deliver more Black newborns,” the authors wrote. “The findings suggest that Black physicians outperform their White colleagues when caring for Black newborns.”

CNN reported that the study did not speculate as to the reasons behind the data, but wrote:

”Taken with this work, it gives warrant for hospitals and other care organizations to invest in efforts to reduce such biases and explore their connection to institutional racism.

“Reducing racial disparities in newborn mortality will also require raising awareness among physicians, nurses, and hospital administrators about the prevalence of racial and ethnic disparities,” the researchers added.

It’s already known that Black infants have 2.3 times the infant mortality rate as White infants, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health.

A report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which covered the period between 2000 to 2017 and was published in June, found that Black infants still have more than twice the risk of dying as White infants.

Meanwhile, KanyiDaily had also reported that a new research indicates that 33% of women go on a date with men just to eat free food.
