Lagos State Police Command has finally arrested a fleeing Sergeant Eze Aiwansone, attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 16, Ikeja, for shooting of his girlfriend, Joy Eze.
KanyiDaily had published a video showing Joy Eze bleeding heavily after she was allegedly shot in her mouth by Sergeant Eze Aiwansoba at Salvation Bus Stop, Opebi Road.
While the Sergeant fled the scene after the act, passersby reportedly rescued the bleeding lady and took her to a private hospital in Ikeja, where she received treatment.
Joy Eze told police officers that she was in a relationship with Aiwansone, and they were having an argument at the bus stop before the Sergeant shot her in the mouth with his gun and immediately fled the scene on October 8, 2020.
Spokesperson for the police in Lagos, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, October 29, said Aiwansone was arrested by his elder brother and handed over to the command.
“The suspect, who had been on the run, was arrested by his elder brother who is an Inspector of police in Lagos State and handed him over to the command.
“The state CID, Panti, has taken over the case on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, for further investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police has however warned police personnel in Lagos State to desist from any act that can tarnish the image of the police; and be committed to the principles of community policing for better service delivery and public safety in the state.”
The incident happened during the nationwide #EndSARS protest against the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force over brutality, illegal arrest, extortion, extra-judicial killings, among others.
