Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has imposed a 24-hour curfew in the state owing to the outbreak of violence amid the ongoing protest against the extrajudicial activities of the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
In a statement issued on Tuesday via his Twitter page, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the peaceful #EndSARS protest has slid into a monster that is threatening social lives of Lagosians.
The governor, who imposed 24-hour curfew on the state effective 4pm Tuesday (today), lamented that criminal elements are hiding behind the peaceful protest to unleash terror on the state.
“Dear Lagosians, I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society. Lives and limbs have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our State,” he said.
“As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.
“I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4pm today, 20th October, 2020. Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets.”
This is coming after Suspected hoodlums burnt down the police station situated in Orile-Iganmu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
KanyiDaily had also reported how the ongoing #EndSARS protest was disrupted this morning by as armed thugs and cultists in Ketu, Lagos State.
