Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a housewife, Eniye Zuokemefa, for alleged complicity in the killing of her husband, Enebraye Zuokemefa, over allegations of infidelity.
Enebraye, who lectured at the Isaac Jasper Boro College of Education, Sagbama, was reportedly shot three times by unknown gunmen on Friday, after he finished transacting business at a point-of-sale centre around the Ekeki area of Yenagoa.
A family member, who pleaded anonymity, claimed that the accused wife had on several occasions threatened to kill her husband over allegations of having children outside their marriage due to her inability to bear him a child.
“The marriage was filled with turbulence with the woman leaving her matrimonial home on several occasions but they recently made up when the husband arrived in Yenagoa from a study trip abroad.”
It was also gathered that the deceased lecturer had many times been attacked in their home and he told his relatives and friends to hold his wife responsible for any harm which befalls him.
“He was always heard telling family members and close friends to hold his wife responsible if anything happened to him,’’ some neighbours said.
Sources also said the police are on the trail of four persons suspected to have killed Zuokemefa, who were last seen driving a red tinted Toyota car.
“The vehicle was seen moving suspiciously around the deceased’s residence, and the suspects were later seen sharing money at a drinking spot few meters from the crime scene,” a source said.
When contacted, the Police spokesman, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the arrest but insisted that Eniye was arrested based on her ‘previous threats’.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man identified as Alasan Audu has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife because she denied him sex, days after their marriage in Jigawa State.
