Lagos State Police Command has tightened the security at Lekki Toll Gate ahead of the planned #OccupyLekkiTollGate protests on Saturday.
In a tweet on Friday night, the state’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) confirmed the development, saying a team of operatives have been deployed on a show of force at Lekki Toll Gate.
The Police department said the show of force was part of efforts to deter crime as well as boost the morale of his officers in the areas.
The tweet read, “CSP Yinka Egbeyemi is presently leading a team of police officers on a show of force to Lekki Toll Gate (Admiralty Plaza) Obalende, Ikoyi, Jakande Roundabout, and other areas in Eti Osa as part of efforts to deter crime as well as boost the morale of his officers in the areas.”

KanyiDaily had reported that the plan to #OccupyLekkiTollGate is in reaction to the decision of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry to reopen the Lekki Toll Gate plaza.
The tollgate has been closed since last year following the alleged shooting and killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers and police on October 20, 2020.
However, the Judicial panel on Saturday, February, 6, 2021, voted in support of the reopening of the tollgate by its owners, the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).
Irked by the decision of the panel, Nigerian youths have planned another protest at the tollgate on Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 7am.
Using the hashtag #OccupyLekkiTollGate, the angry youths are insisting that the tollgate remains closed until justice is served to the victims of the Lekki shooting.
Meanwhile, Rinu Oduala has stepped down as a youth representative on the #EndSARS protest due to the controversial ruling of the Lagos Judicial Panel to reopen Lekki toll gate.
