A Ghanaian actress, Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo has been arraigned in court, and convicted over the publication of her nude photos with her seven-year-old son.
The actress came under fire in June 2020 after she shared a nude photo of herself and her son who was also half-naked to celebrate his seventh birthday on Instagram.
The caption on the picture read: “I am naked in front of you because this is how naked I was giving birth to you, so in case you find me lying somewhere don’t pass by but see me as your mom who brought you to life.”
But after several criticisms on the post, the actress apologised for her actions which she claimed was to get children to do more for their mothers no matter how deprived the state in which they [mothers] find themselves in.
“I was not completely naked. He did not see my organs because I covered myself with a cloth and applied sellotapes to the necessary parts. Besides the picture was taken in my own house,” Akuapem Poloo added.
On June 30 2020, she was arraigned on three counts of publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence, conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity, and engaging in domestic violence, amongst others.
Akuapem pleaded “not guilty” when she was first arraigned, but changed her plea to “guilty” when re-arraigned on Wednesday, April 14, 2021
The actress was then convicted by Her Honour, Christiana Cann of Accra Circuit Court who admitted her to bail in the sum of ¢100,000 with four sureties two to be justified with landed property worth ¢100,000.
EIB Network reported that the court has deferred her sentencing to Friday, April 16 for her to undergo a pregnancy test in compliance with the law regarding a woman who has pleaded guilty in court.
