A 17-year-old girl identified as Neha Paswan has been beaten to death by her family members for wearing a pair of jeans in Uttar Pradesh, India.
It was gathered that Neha was allegedly beaten to death with sticks by a gang of fundamentalist men including her grandfather and uncles because they didn’t like her wearing jeans.
Neha’s construction worker dad, Amarnath Paswan, who lives in another town, said he worked hard so Neha and his other children could go to school only for him to return to see that she has been murdered.
Speaking with BBC Hindi, the deceased mother, Shakuntala Devi Paswan, said that her daughter had been severely beaten with sticks by her grandfather and uncles after an argument over her clothes at their home in Savreji Kharg village in Deoria district.
“She had kept a day-long religious fast. In the evening, she put on a pair of jeans and a top and performed her rituals. When her grandparents objected to her attire, Neha retorted that jeans were made to be worn and that she would wear it,” her mother said.

The family members took issue with her choice of outfit and an argument ensured before Neha Paswan was brutally attacked by 10 men wielding sticks, says report.
The devastated mother said her father-in-law and others carried Neha in a rickshaw as she fell unconscious because of the beating, saying that they were taking her to the hospital.
Following the sudden death of the teenager on their way to hospital, the family members tried to throw her body from the bridge in an attempt to cover up their heinous crime. But the body got stuck and remained there till the next morning.
Shakuntala said the family members wouldn’t allow her accompany them so she alerted her relatives who went to the district hospital looking for the teenage girl but couldn’t find her.
The mother said the next morning, they heard that the body of a girl was hanging from the bridge over the Gandak river that flows through the region. When they went to investigate, they discovered it was Neha’s.
It was gathered that the police have lodged a case of murder and destruction of evidence against 10 people, including Neha’s grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and the auto driver.
Senior police official Shriyash Tripathi told BBC Hindi that four people, including the grandparents, an uncle and the auto driver, had been arrested and were being questioned.
