Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a soldier and abducted a housewife and her three children at Milgoma, a community near the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Kaduna State.
According to Channels TV, the secretary of Milgoma community simply identified as Sani said those kidnapped by the gunmen included a woman, her daughter, and two sons.
Sani said that the bandits invaded the area in large numbers at about 9 pm on Monday and went straight to the residence of a male lecturer working with the Kaduna State University, with the intention to kidnap him.
The secretary explained that Milgoma residents alerted the soldiers stationed in the area about the development and the security operatives moved swiftly to the scene upon receiving the distress call.
The bandits were said to have immediately engaged the security operatives in a fierce gun battle after sighting them around the lecturer’s compound.
One of the soldiers, who advanced to the residence of the lecturer, was said to have been shot by the gunmen who already laid an ambush around the compound.
Sani said that the security operatives were able to stop the bandits from kidnapping the lecturer, but the soldier who was shot, was later rushed to a hospital where he died of gunshot wounds.
After the gunmen were overpowered, they moved to another location within the community where they abducted the woman and her three children.
It was gathered that the body of one of the bandits who also died from bullet wounds was later discovered by soldiers after the attack.
This comes a few days after Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai condemned the brutal murder of Reverend Silas Yakubu Ali, who macheted to death after he departed for Kafanchan on Saturday.
