Chike Akunyili, the husband to late NAFDAC DG, Dora Akunyili, has been killed by gunmen in Anambra.
Unknown gunmen have killed Dr. Chike Akunyili, the husband to late former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof Dora Akunyili.
Dr. Chike Akunyili was killed on Tuesday night after he attended a memorial in honour of his late wife, Dora Akunyili, in Onitsha, Anambra State.
A source said the medical doctor was still at the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch, where the late Dora was honoured some hours before he was killed.
“I was with this man yesterday same yesterday at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha. It was an occasion of University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch event where they honoured late Dora Akunyili.
“He spoke glowingly about Dora and made a donation of 500k to the association. He was there with his son, Obum now working with Anambra state government.
“We saw them off to the car and it was emotional when Obum hugged him tight as both of them separated to join their respective vehicles.
“Obum was in a white Hilux while the man was in a big Jeep (i think Prado). He must have been killed when returning from the function.God have mercy!”

Chike Akunyili is a medical doctor, famous for his wife Dora Akunyili, who was former director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)’
His wife, Dora Akunyili, who was the DG of NAFDAC from 2001 to 2008, died in an Indian hospital on June 7, 2014 at the age of 57 after a prolonged ailment.
