The Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Amara Iwuanyanwu has been impeached under tight security.
Iwuanyanwu was removed during the plenary on Tuesday following a resolution signed by 18 out of the 27 members of the House.
Ekene Nnodim, who represents Orlu state constituency, submitted the resolution for the removal of Iwuanyanwu and it was approved by the Speaker, Paul Emezim, who presided over the plenary.
Although no reason was given for the removal of the Deputy Speaker, some lawmakers who pleaded anonymity alleged Iwuanyanwu was high-handed and overtly ambitious.
Meanwhile, Imo House of Assembly also recalled six lawmakers of the state legislature who were suspended four months on what the speaker tagged “unparliamentary conduct”.
The lawmakers included Kennedy Ibe (Obowo); Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte Uboma); Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru); Anyadike Nwosu (Ezinihitte Mbaise); Philip Ejiogu, (Owerri North); and Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West)
